TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Downtown Tallahassee has a new sushi and hibachi spot. Sushi Sake, a chain with roots in South Florida, opened its doors at 4 p.m. Monday on North Monroe Street.
The restaurant fills 5,980 square feet at 440 N. Monroe St., on the ground floor of The Industry apartment building across from the Hotel Duval. The company runs more than 30 restaurants around the state, and this is its first in the capital.
The draw is a set of teppanyaki tables where cooks prepare meals in front of diners. A lounge pours wine, sake and cocktails, and Japanese draft beer and champagne are also offered.
The menu leans on sushi and hand rolls, from eel and dragon rolls to California and crunchy rolls, plus hibachi and teriyaki dinners, fried rice, noodles, soups and salads. Starters include shumai dumplings with pork or shrimp for $9 and beef tataki with ponzu for $19, and specialty rolls run about $15. Thai donuts are on the dessert list.
Hours are 4 to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 4 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday. The location also takes pickup and delivery orders.
The opening caps a project that took longer than first planned. When the deal was announced in the summer of 2025, Ed Murray, president of property developer NAI Talcor, called the restaurant the first for The Industry and said the hope was to open in early 2026. He also described plans for a large courtyard for outdoor dining, and he said he expected the upscale concept to pull in college students along with people who live and work downtown and in midtown.
