Born on February 4th, 1933, in Brooklyn, New York, Jack was the first born in a bustling family of five kids, raised in the sunny city of Tampa, Florida. After graduating from H.B. Plant High School in 1951, he took the brave step of joining the United States Army during the tumultuous times of the Korean War, where he served proudly in France. Discharged honorably in October 1953, Jack’s journey took a vibrant turn as he returned to his academic pursuits.
Education and Career
Jack went on to attend The University of Florida, but his educational path was interrupted as he joined the Army. After his dedicated service, he returned to Tampa and joined Tampa University, where he became a star on the 8-man rowing champion team. His academic ambitions blossomed further, leading him to Stetson Law School, where he distinguished himself and passed the Florida Bar in 1964.
A Family Man
In 1962, Jack married the love of his life, Litty Vance, in Tampa, Florida. Their journey as a couple started in Tallahassee, where Jack took on a role at the Florida State Attorney General’s Office for two years. Eventually, the couple decided to settle down in Quincy, where Jack became a law partner with esteemed Senator Dewey Johnson.
