Wakulla County Comes Together to Honor the Memory of Matthew Logan Alford

In the heart of Wakulla County, Florida, a community is coming together to remember one of their own, Matthew Logan Alford, who captured many hearts with his warm spirit and boundless kindness. Born on October 8, 1985, in nearby Tallahassee, Matt tragically passed away on February 12, 2025, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire others.

Remembering a Shining Light

Matt was not just an ordinary individual; he was a beacon of light for those who knew him. With his infectious smile and big-hearted nature, he touched the lives of family, friends, and everyone he encountered. He is survived by his two beloved children, Henry and Edith Alford, who he cherished with all his heart. Additionally, he leaves behind his parents, Floyd Alford and Ann Robeck, along with his stepfather, Mike Robeck, and his loving sibling, Mason Alford, who will carry his memory forward.

Matt’s loss is profoundly felt, not just by his immediate family but also by a wide circle of aunts, uncles, cousins, and his dear maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Roberson. He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Billy Roberson, as well as his paternal grandparents, making their family ties even stronger as they support each other through this difficult time.

A Legacy of Achievement

Growing up in Wakulla County, Matt’s passion for learning and excellence was evident early on. He proudly graduated from Wakulla County High School in 2004, where he actively participated in various school activities. Whether it was participating in the Brain Bowl, scoring goals in soccer, or demonstrating leadership in ROTC, Matt was a well-rounded student with a strong sense of community.

His quest for knowledge took him to Tallahassee State College and then to Florida State University, where he earned a Master’s degree in Applied American Politics and English. But his contribution didn’t stop at academics. Matt’s career showcased his commitment to advocacy and environmental protection. He served in significant roles, such as a Legislative Aide, Chief of Staff, and eventually as Deputy Legislative Affairs Director for the Commissioner of Agriculture. His work as Executive Director of Drive Electric Florida further emphasized his dedication to sustainable practices.

Celebration of Life: Remembering Matt Together

To honor Matt’s remarkable life, a Celebration of Life Service is scheduled for February 22, 2025, at the Family Funeral Home in Crawfordville, Florida. Friends and family are welcome from 2:00 to 3:00 PM, with the service commencing at 3:00 PM. For those unable to attend in person, the event will also be streamed online via Facebook, making it possible for everyone to partake in the remembrance.

In lieu of flowers, a scholarship has been established in Matt’s memory to support future generations of students. Donations can be made to the Wakulla Academic Boosters either through their website or by mail, continuing Matt’s legacy of education and community support.

Final Thoughts

As Wakulla County remembers Matt, it’s clear his impact will not be forgotten. He was a devoted father, a caring friend, and an individual with an extraordinary passion for life. The void he leaves behind is immeasurable, but through the love and memories shared by many, he will continue to shine brightly in our hearts.
