A Tradition of Inspiration

This wonderful tradition kicked off in 2006 with the “25 Women” program, highlighting powerful women who significantly contribute to our community. To the delight of many, a special category for young women was introduced in 2014, allowing a spotlight to shine on the next generation of leaders. Now with these new additions, the total honorees have reached a staggering 530 members who have dedicated themselves to the well-being of our beloved community.

Meet the Honorees

The profiles of this year’s inspiring honorees will start rolling out on March 16, 2024, both in the local newspaper and online. The women being honored include an array of names that have made notable impacts in various fields. Among the 25 women are community leaders like Kathy Bell and Dr. Cindy Bigbie, as well as innovative minds like Michelle Bono and Valerie Dallas. These women are not just making waves; they are shaping the future of Tallahassee through their dedication and service across multiple sectors.

The 5 young women recognized this year—Ashley Campbell, Elizabeth Hughes, LaNiyah Lee, Dhenu Patel, and Faith Thomas—are no less impressive. Their contributions to local nonprofit organizations like the Tallahassee Lender Consortium and the Big Bend Homeless Coalition illustrate the importance of youth engagement in ongoing community service efforts.

Women United Breakfast: A Celebration of Empowerment

As part of this illustrious celebration, the community will also host the eighth annual Women’s Leadership Breakfast on November 12, 2024, at the elegant FSU Dunlap Champions Club. This event is organized by Women United in partnership with United Way of the Big Bend, aiming to shine a light on local leaders and empower community members. This year’s keynote speaker will be the accomplished businesswoman Elyce Arons, co-founder and CEO of Frances Valentine. With her multifaceted career in the fashion industry and her commitment to raising her three daughters, Elyce embodies the spirit of dedication and achievement that the event celebrates.

The Tallahassee Woman’s Club has played a significant role in our community since its inception in 1903. Celebrating over a century of initiatives, the club engages in vital civic efforts like raising funds for hospice care and advocating for public works projects. With a current membership of over 150 women, they continue to have a profound impact on the community through various committees overseeing diverse social issues.

A Bright Future Ahead

Among those who have been influential in community issues is Courtney Thomas, recognized for her leadership as the Director of External Affairs for the City of Tallahassee. She has pioneered initiatives promoting women’s equity and ensuring access to essential services, such as free menstrual products in public spaces. This representation of leadership spanning across different niches emphasizes the collective spirit of community welfare.
