News Summary

Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare and HCA Florida Capital Hospital secured commendable ‘B’ ratings in the latest Leapfrog Hospital Safety Ratings. Despite achieving these milestones, TMH is currently dealing with a significant cybersecurity incident, impacting its operations and patient care. The FBI is investigating the cyberattack, while both hospitals continue to prioritize patient safety and care delivery amidst the challenges.

Tallahassee – Two major hospitals in Tallahassee, Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare (TMH) and HCA Florida Capital Hospital, have attained commendable safety ratings in the latest Leapfrog Group Hospital Safety Ratings for spring 2025. TMH earned a “B,” marking its highest rating in a decade, while HCA Florida Capital Hospital also secured a “B.” These evaluations place both institutions among approximately 3,000 acute care hospitals assessed in this cycle.

The Leapfrog Group’s ratings focus on several crucial criteria that evaluate hospitals on their effectiveness in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections, and other safety-related issues. TMH’s recent rating reflects its ongoing commitment to enhancing patient care and safety standards. The hospital’s leadership projects an optimism for higher ratings in the future, anticipating a possible “A” rating in the upcoming fall assessments.

In addition to their Leapfrog ratings, HCA Florida Capital Hospital has been recognized with the 2025 Patient Safety Excellence Award™ from Healthgrades for the sixth consecutive year, identifying the hospital as part of the top 5% for patient safety on a national level. This recognition underscores the hospital’s persistence in delivering high-quality care and preventing serious safety events.
