A citywide celebration is planned to honor this distinguished achievement.

Tallahassee has officially been recognized as a three-time All-America City following an energetic presentation at the National Civic League conference in Denver on Sunday night. A delegation of local leaders, including city administrators and advocates, celebrated the victory as Tallahassee was announced as the final city among ten winners.

This year, Tallahassee faced stiff competition, with twenty cities vying for the esteemed title. The announcement proved to be a nail-biter, eliciting excitement and chants of “Hey Tallahassee” from the audience. The award highlights the community’s significant investments in parks and their commitment to a clean and renewable future.

Mayor John Dailey expressed pride in the city’s achievements while praising City Manager Reese Goad as a significant asset to Tallahassee’s success. This victory marks the third time Tallahassee has received the All-America City designation, previously winning the award in 1999 and 2015. The city joins an elite group that includes Shreveport, LA, Bloomington, IN, Boston, MA, Asheville, NC, Fort Worth, TX, and Cincinnati, OH, which have also been recognized three times.

The theme of this year’s award was “strengthening environmental sustainability through inclusive community engagement.” Several key initiatives were highlighted during the presentation, including the Southside Action Plan, the extensive expansion of the park system to 100 parks, and the ambitious Clean Energy Plan. Mayor Dailey, acting as the host of a styled talk show called “Capital City Tonight,” emphasized Tallahassee’s ongoing progress and commitment to sustainability.

During the presentation, it was noted that Tallahassee was the first city in Florida to power all its municipal buildings with solar energy. Elected officials and community members, like Commissioner Jack Porter, underscored the importance of the city’s clean energy goals, including plans to achieve 100% clean energy by 2050. The delegation emphasized that over 90% of residents live within a ten-minute walk of a park or greenspace.

Four of the five city elected leaders represented Tallahassee at the event, with the notable absence of Commissioner Jeremy Matlow. The presentation concluded with a lively performance from the School of Arts & Sciences middle school rock band, Tallahassee Routes, which received enthusiastic applause from the audience. The city also garnered recognition for the best use of social media in promoting their All-America efforts, further showcasing its commitment to community engagement.

The recent All-America City award adds to a growing list of national recognitions for Tallahassee. The city has been highlighted by HGTV as one of the top 20 mid-size cities in the United States and ranked among the top 20 best-run cities in America by WalletHub. These accolades affirm that Tallahassee is actively “on the move” and making strides in various areas of community development and sustainability.

A citywide celebration is anticipated in the coming weeks to honor this recent achievement. The recognition as a three-time All-America City not only reflects the hard work of city officials and the community but also strengthens Tallahassee’s reputation as a thriving, sustainable, and engaged city committed to a brighter future.
