Good news for Leon County residents! The number of people employed in our lovely county climbed to 161,025 individuals in January. That’s about 651 more jobs than the 160,374 folks accounted for in December! This improvement indicates a healthy labor market as more people are finding work.
However, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. Along with the job growth, the unemployment rate has risen from 3.3% in December to 3.7% in January. While it may seem concerning, it’s essential to look at the broader picture.
Leon County’s total workforce grew to 167,284 in January, an increase from 165,774 in December. This year-over-year comparison shows a gain of 3,467 individuals in the labor force compared to January 2024, hinting that even though more people are seeking jobs, the economy is expanding, leading to new employment opportunities.
When looking at the past year, it becomes clear that January 2025 has been a positive month. The number of jobs in the county has increased by 2,455 compared to January 2024. This steady growth can be comforting for many residents who are part of the Leon County job scene.
On March 18, 2025, the board will review the request to meet the federal expenditure deadline of January 28, 2026. This move showcases the county’s commitment to providing affordable housing options for residents in need.
