Join the cause and help create brighter futures through support and guidance.

Explore the Heartwarming Opportunity to Make a Difference in Tallahassee

In the sunny city of Tallahassee, there’s a call to action that’s sure to pull at your heartstrings! The Florida Guardian ad Litem Office is currently on the lookout for male volunteers to step forward and provide support to vulnerable children who have found themselves in tough situations—be that abuse, neglect, or even abandonment. These kids need caring adults to advocate for them, and here’s how you can be a part of this transformative experience.

Why Become a Guardian ad Litem Volunteer?

Being a Guardian ad Litem (GAL) is more than just a title; it’s a role that comes with immense responsibility and, even more so, the power to significantly change a child’s life. When you become a volunteer or mentor, you’re stepping into a child’s world and making a lasting impact on both their present circumstances and their future. With over 16 years of experience as a GAL volunteer myself, I can tell you that the rewards are abundant and genuinely fulfilling.

GAL volunteers work to ensure that children in foster care find safe and permanent homes. While the primary goal for many of these little ones is to reunite with family, volunteers help strengthen the bonds that matter. Alongside a team of devoted attorneys and child welfare professionals, GAL volunteers provide independent legal representation while focusing on the needs and preferences of these children in court.

Support for Teens and Young Adults

But the work doesn’t stop there! Volunteers are also crucial in mentoring older teens, offering support as they transition into adulthood and independence. Imagine being that rock for a teenager who desperately needs guidance as they navigate life, perhaps for the very first time without the safety net of a nurturing family.

Join the Cause: An Ongoing Need for Male Volunteers

There’s a particular need right now for male volunteers. In response to this, the Florida Guardian ad Litem Office has launched a Male Volunteer/Mentor Recruitment Workgroup. The efforts made so far have resulted in a proud 21% increase in male volunteers, yet the goal remains to achieve a balanced representation. Volunteers enhance the GAL program by providing positive male role models for children who may have never had one.

Exciting Events and Opportunities Await!

Recently, a fun-packed recruitment event called “Get in the Game” was held, featuring special guest Jeff Cameron, which got everyone excited about the great work being done. If you’re curious about how to get involved, mark your calendars! An informative webinar is scheduled for February 6 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.. It’s a perfect opportunity to learn more about volunteering and how you can fit into this splendid cause.

For anyone interested, feel free to reach out to Laurel Rigg, the dedicated Volunteer Recruiter. Whether you’re looking to ask specific questions or want to know more about the volunteer journey, Laurel is ready to help. You can email her at Laurel.Rigg@gal.fl.gov or give her a call at 850-815-0461. Additionally, the Guardian ad Litem Office has a treasure trove of information available on their website: www.guardianadlitem.org.

Mark Your Calendars for a Special Event

And don’t forget the upcoming Red Shoes Party, happening on February 8 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the flashy Old Florida Fish House in Santa Rosa Beach. This special event will support foster children and promises to be a heartwarming gathering for those who care about making a difference in the lives of these kids.

If you’re ready to make an impact and have a blast doing it, now is the perfect time to step up as a male volunteer or mentor with the Florida Guardian ad Litem Office. Every little effort counts, and together, we can work towards creating brighter futures for the children that truly need it!
