Tallahassee, Florida – Florida State University (FSU) has successfully secured a commitment from four-star wide receiver Jasen Lopez, a promising athlete from Chaminade-Madonna. This commitment marks a significant boost for FSU’s recruiting efforts as they continue to enhance their football program.
Lopez enjoyed a standout season during his junior year, where he recorded impressive statistics that included 87 receptions for 1,300 yards and 14 touchdowns. Averaging 14.9 yards per catch, he also made contributions on the ground with six rushing attempts, totaling 68 yards and two rushing touchdowns. Additionally, Lopez showcased his versatility by scoring eight touchdowns on special teams, notably including a punt return touchdown. Throughout the season, he had four games where he surpassed the 100-yard mark in receiving, culminating in a season-high performance where he caught 11 passes for 256 yards.
In addition to his football prowess, Lopez is also an exceptional basketball player. Last season, he averaged an impressive 25.0 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 4.1 steals per game, demonstrating his athletic capability across multiple sports. As he transitions to FSU, he is expected to contribute to both the football and basketball teams, emphasizing his multifaceted talents.
Ranked as the No. 252 overall recruit, No. 43 wide receiver, and No. 39 recruit in Florida for the 2026 class according to 247Sports, Lopez is one of the notable additions during FSU’s recent recruiting surge. Following a series of promising moves, the university has gained significant momentum in recruiting, bringing in 11 commitments since June. This push has propelled their class ranking from outside the top 30 to a position just outside the top 10 nationally, highlighting a notable turnaround for the program.
Currently, FSU holds 21 verbal commitments in its 2026 recruiting class, placing them 11th in the nation. The class now includes other high-profile commits such as four-star recruits Devin Carter, Efrem White, and Darryon Williams. Despite this positive trend, Lopez has indicated he will keep his recruitment open and continues to evaluate offers from other schools, including Miami, West Virginia, Georgia Tech, and North Carolina State.
Last year, FSU faced challenges with decommitments, losing ten recruits amid a difficult season, making the retention of current commitments especially crucial for the program. Under head coach Mike Norvell, the team is actively working to rebuild and enhance their competitive edge in college football.
Alongside Lopez, FSU recently secured another key commitment from four-star defensive end Earnest Rankins, further strengthening their 2026 recruiting class. The landscape of college football recruiting remains fluid, with active pursuits for players even after they make verbal commitments, underscoring the unpredictable nature of the recruiting process.
As FSU looks to build a formidable team, the commitment of Jasen Lopez and others serves as a critical step toward reestablishing the program’s prominence in college football.
