News Summary

Florida State University is intensifying its efforts to recruit quarterbacks, having experienced significant transfers in its current roster. With both Brock Glenn and Kevin Sperry in place, the Seminoles are pursuing top prospects, including four-star quarterback Jameson Purcell from Maine South High School. As FSU prepares for the future, the program’s need for talented quarterbacks is underscored by its ongoing recruitment strategy, which now also includes five-star prospect Keisean Henderson. Coach Mike Norvell aims to enhance the team’s competitiveness in college football.

TALLAHASSEE, FL – Florida State University (FSU) is focused on bolstering its quarterback recruitment efforts as it navigates a challenging landscape under head coach Mike Norvell. With five out of seven quarterbacks transferring from the program, FSU is urgently seeking to secure top prospects for its future classes.

The current roster includes redshirt sophomore Brock Glenn and true freshman Kevin Sperry, but the need for fresh talent is evident as FSU looks ahead to the upcoming seasons. As part of its strategy, the Seminoles actively evaluate quarterback options for the 2027 recruiting class. Recently, FSU extended an offer to four-star quarterback Jameson Purcell, a rising junior from Maine South High School, showcasing their commitment to improving their quarterback situation.

Purcell is scheduled to make a visit to FSU on June 15 for a workout in an individual camp, marking his first opportunity to engage with the program personally. His impressive performance as a sophomore includes completing 197 of 280 passes for 2,572 yards, with 30 touchdowns and only seven interceptions. Additionally, Purcell demonstrated his dual-threat capabilities by rushing for 151 yards and two touchdowns.

Ranked as the No. 292 overall prospect and the No. 20 quarterback in the nation by 247Sports, Purcell is also listed as the No. 9 recruit in Illinois for the 2027 class. This strong ranking underscores FSU’s need to secure talented quarterbacks as it aims to elevate its performance in the coming seasons. Currently, FSU has received four verbal commitments for its 2027 class, which is ranked No. 1 in the nation, but a quarterback commitment is still pending.

Coach Mike Norvell is also pinning his hopes on senior quarterback Tommy Castellanos, a transfer from Boston College, who is anticipated to lead the Seminoles following a disappointing 2-10 season. Castellanos possesses dual-threat capabilities and strong leadership qualities, though his performance has been inconsistent in previous seasons. Norvell is optimistic about Castellanos’ potential, expecting him to develop into one of the premier quarterbacks in the country with the right support.

In addition to targeting Purcell, FSU is pursuing other high-profile quarterback prospects as the summer recruiting period begins. Notably, five-star quarterback Keisean Henderson is on the Seminoles’ radar. Henderson, currently committed to Houston, is set to visit FSU for an official meeting on June 9, a move that could significantly enhance FSU’s recruitment of elite quarterbacks.

Henderson has garnered over 30 scholarship offers due to his exceptional athleticism and versatility, having initially started his high school career as a wide receiver before transitioning to the quarterback position. FSU’s strategy focuses on flipping Henderson from his Houston commitment, capitalizing on the successes of previous quarterback recruits to attract high-caliber talent.

With the stakes high, FSU’s quarterback recruitment efforts reflect a broader need to enhance the program’s competitive edge in college football. As the Seminoles navigate player transfers and seek to build a robust roster, securing top quarterback recruits stands central to their mission moving forward.
