In Madison, Wisconsin, excitement is bubbling over as Alex Heinrich, a remarkable talent in the swimming pool, has officially announced his commitment to join the Florida State University swimming team in the fall of 2025. A mid-distance freestyle and butterfly specialist, Heinrich is already making waves, quite literally, with his impressive skills in the water.
Currently attending the Vel Phillips Memorial High School in Madison, Heinrich has been making quite a name for himself. He trains with the renowned Badger Aquatics Club, where he has fine-tuned his swimming abilities and shown that he’s not just another high school athlete. With a personal best time of 4:33.93 in the 500 freestyle, he has demonstrated a promising future that excites the coaching staff at Florida State.
Heinrich is not just swimming along; he has recently set state records in the 200 freestyle and the 100 butterfly, showcasing his prowess in competitive swimming. His achievements are not limited to records; at the 2024 WIAA Boys Division 1 State Championships, he competed fiercely and finished third in the 200 free with an impressive time of 1:38.79 and fifth in the 500 free with his personal best of 4:33.93.
If you think that’s impressive, just wait! Heinrich also shined at the Wisconsin SC Senior Championships, where he was a three-time finalist. He achieved third place in both the 200 free at 1:40.52 and the 100 fly at 49.92. Not to forget his fourth-place finish in the 100 free with a speedy time of 46.07. This young superstar is surely making his mark!
Just to show how dedicated Heinrich is, he previously ranked fifth in the 500 free at the 2023 WIAA Boys Division 1 State Championships with a time of 4:38.13. Fast forward to December 2024, and he was on fire at the Speedo Winter Junior Championship West where he clocked in at his all-time bests with a 100 free at 45.22 and a 200 fly at 1:48.85. The All-City League Championship Swim Meet also saw him post a lifetime personal record of 48.41 in the 100 fly. It’s clear that Heinrich knows how to push his limits!
As Heinrich gears up to join the Florida State swimming team, he will not be alone. He’ll be welcomed into a talented 2025 recruiting class that includes fellow recruits Walter Kueffer, Ethan Silver, Kaiser Dominik, and Matt Taylor. Among them, Silver boasts an impressive time of 4:32.64 in the 500 free, and Dominik’s time of 3:53.39 in the 400 SCM translates to an exciting 4:26.73 in SCY. Heinrich’s arrival comes at a pivotal time as both the distance and butterfly groups aim to strengthen their ranks.
The Florida State men’s team recently placed 6th at the 2024 Atlantic Coast Championships, maintaining the same position as the previous year. With the addition of promising talents like Heinrich, fans are eagerly anticipating how much stronger this team can become in the coming years.
In conclusion, as Alex Heinrich prepares to take the plunge into collegiate swimming, Florida State University has every reason to be excited. With his competitive spirit and exceptional talent, Heinrich is set to make a significant splash in the college swimming scene!
