Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The Florida State Seminoles had a buzzing start to their 2025 softball season as they participated in the exciting Puerto Vallarta College Challenge on February 6, 2025. Their opening day was filled with thrilling moments and hard-fought battles against formidable opponents.

Game One: A Tough Battle Against Oklahoma State

The Noles faced a challenging first game against the No. 4 ranked Oklahoma State Cowgirls. From the get-go, Oklahoma State showcased their strength, scoring three runs within the first two innings. The Seminoles found themselves down early but showed resilience by clawing back into the game.

One highlight in the third inning was a fantastic home run from Jaysoni Beachum, marking Florida State’s first run of the game. However, the Cowgirls didn’t make it easy, as they extended their lead to 4-1 by the fourth inning. That prompted some intense moments as Florida State aimed to rally back.

Florida State kept their spirits up with a sacrifice fly from Annabelle Widra, closing the gap to 4-2. But Oklahoma State proved too tough, scoring five more runs between the fifth and sixth innings, making the score 9-2.

The Seminoles, however, refused to give up and made a thrilling late-game comeback by scoring four runs in the seventh inning, with a couple of impressive home runs from Harp and Beachum. It was a spirited effort that showcased their determination. Despite the late surge, FSU ended up losing the opener with a final score of 9-6. Harp and Beachum were standout players, each finishing with two hits and a combined five RBIs, with Harp having a spectacular day going 6-for-7 at the plate.

Game Two: A Resounding Victory Against Northern Colorado

Northern Colorado. This time, the Seminoles showcased a much stronger performance, starting strong and maintaining momentum throughout the game.

In the first inning, FSU got off on the right foot with two runs from back-to-back singles by Isa Torres and Michaela Edenfield. Katie Dack quickly followed up with a double that brought both players home, giving FSU an early lead.

The excitement continued in the second inning when Jahni Kerr led off with a thrilling triple, establishing her team’s aggressive approach. Harp again shined brightly, turning the momentum into a run after a subsequent single, followed by another sacrifice fly from Widra to extend FSU’s advantage to 4-0.

Although Northern Colorado managed to score an unearned run in the third inning, it was evident that Florida State was in control. Freshman pitcher Jazzy Francik dominated the game, pitching six strong innings while allowing no earned runs and striking out four batters in her first collegiate start. The final inning saw the Seminoles adding three more insurance runs, thanks to superb efforts from Kerr, who hit an RBI single, and Harp, who knocked in a two-RBI double.

In the end, Florida State celebrated a well-deserved 7-1 victory. Harp put in another incredible performance, finishing a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, while Torress followed closely with a solid 3-for-4 showing. Kerr also made her mark with two RBIs and two hits.

What’s Next for the Seminoles?
