Tallahassee – Michael Steven Partin, a cherished resident of Tallahassee and dedicated family man, passed away on September 1, 2025, at the age of 75 after a determined battle with cancer. His beloved family remembers him for his sense of humor, creativity, and unwavering support. Born on November 18, 1949, in Miami, Florida, Michael was the second of four boys to parents John and Leona Partin. In 1961, the family relocated to Tallahassee, where he attended Blessed Sacrament School and served as an altar boy. Known for his playful nature during his school years, Michael often prioritized sports and romance over academics. He graduated from Leon High School in 1968, where he met Sherry Deters, who would later become his wife. Michael pursued a degree in constructive design at Florida State University (FSU) and graduated in 1972. After marrying Sherry, they settled on a farm in Quincy, Florida, where they raised farm animals, including goats. Following a shift in career focus, he worked at the Department of Revenue, providing a stable life for his wife and their three daughters. The family moved to “the Blue House” on Thomasville Road in Tallahassee in 1983, where they continued to build their lives. Known for his impressive mechanical skills, Michael earned the affectionate nickname “MacGyver” for his ability to fix just about anything. He was actively involved in his daughters’ lives, coaching their softball teams, teaching them how to drive, and participating in school events. In addition to his role as a father, he had a passion for golf, often playing with friends from Blessed Sacrament, and enjoyed various outdoor activities like flying kites at the beach in Carrabelle. Even after his retirement and subsequent divorce from Sherry, Michael maintained a friendly relationship with her, frequently traveling together to visit their daughters and grandchildren. His sense of humor and creativity left a lasting impression on those who knew him, exemplified by memories such as naming a pig on the farm “Sausage” and crafting a wooden advent calendar. In his final days, Michael held on to celebrate the season opening win of his beloved Seminoles. He was predeceased by his parents and older brother, John Partin, Jr. He is survived by his three daughters: Brooke Nims (Jacob) of Aiken, SC; Summer Walker (Nathan) of Steamboat Springs, CO; and Jenna Partin of Tallahassee, FL. Additionally, he is survived by his two younger brothers, James and Richard Anthony, both of Tallahassee, along with his grandchildren Baylee and Sky Walker, Isabella and Jackson Nims, and his nephew Rasa Partin (Sachi) from Los Angeles and their three children. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Elder Care Services, Inc., or Big Bend Hospice. A memorial service to celebrate Michael Partin’s life is scheduled for Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Bevis Funeral Home in Tallahassee at 2:00 p.m., followed by a reception with food and refreshments. Breanna Green of Bevis Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
