TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Theatre Tallahassee raises the curtain Thursday on Curious Incident, the Tony Award-winning stage version of the bestselling novel about a boy, a dead dog and a midnight mystery, for a run that lasts through Nov. 22.

Playwright Simon Stephens adapted the play from the Mark Haddon novel. It follows Christopher Boone, a 15-year-old with autism who sets out to learn who killed a neighbor’s dog. Christopher is gifted at math but struggles to read everyday life, dislikes being touched, keeps strangers at arm’s length and has never gone past the end of his street alone. He writes down every clue in a book as he works the case. His search, which his father forbids, sends him on a frightening trip away from home and upends his world. Along the way the play looks at his bond with his parents and a school mentor, and at what it takes to raise an autistic child.

The local production leans on a chorus of actors who stand in for what is going on inside Christopher’s mind, set against an abstract, fast-moving staging with projections and sound design.

Evening shows start at 8 p.m. on Nov. 5, 6 and 7, Nov. 13 and 14, and Nov. 20 and 21. Afternoon shows start at 2 p.m. on Nov. 8, 14, 15 and 22. The theater lists a running time of about two hours.

The theater is at 1861 Thomasville Road. The show includes adult themes, scenes of violence and the death of an animal, plus strobe effects and loud noises, so families should weigh whether it suits younger viewers before buying seats.
