TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A statewide Silver Alert for a 74-year-old Tallahassee man has been called off after the Leon County Sheriff’s Office said Sunday that he had been located.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement put out the alert after the man went missing from a neighborhood off Valentine Road South in Leon County. His last known spot was the 10500 block of that road, according to the state alert and the sheriff’s office.

Investigators thought he could be behind the wheel of a 2014 Ford F-150 pickup, white in color, and said he might be driving south toward Kissimmee in Osceola County. The alert listed the truck’s Florida tag so other drivers could watch for it.

The state description said he stood 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighed 165 pounds, with gray hair and brown eyes. When he was last seen he had on a black hat, black shorts and black shoes, along with a blue long-sleeve shirt layered over a blue short-sleeve one.

FDLE later posted a cancellation notice for the alert. The sheriff’s office did not say where the man turned up, how long he had been gone or whether he needed medical care, and it released no other details Sunday.

Under Florida’s system, the state law enforcement agency is the one that sends out and posts Silver Alert information, while the hometown agency handles the actual search. Because the alerts go out statewide, a tip can come from a driver or neighbor far outside the area where the person was last seen.

Anyone with information about a missing person in Leon County can dial 911 or reach the sheriff’s office by phone at 850-606-3300.
